Akshar
Brahmic Script Transliterator
Akshar does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything happens on your device. The only network request the app ever makes is an optional download of an OCR language model from GitHub — nothing about you is sent anywhere.
📋Information we collect
We do not collect any information. Specifically:
- No account registration or sign-in is required.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry SDKs are included.
- No device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage statistics are recorded.
- Text you type, paste, or scan is never transmitted outside your device.
💾Data stored on your device
Akshar stores the following data locally on your device only, using Android’s SharedPreferences storage:
- Conversion history – recent transliteration pairs so you can re-use them.
- Saved notes – notes you explicitly choose to save.
- Display preferences – font size and other UI settings.
- Downloaded OCR models – cached tessdata files for offline scanning.
All of this data remains on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app. You can clear it at any time via Android Settings → Apps → Akshar → Storage → Clear data.
📷Permissions
Akshar may request the following Android permissions:
- Camera – used only when you tap “Live Scan” or “Camera” to capture an image for OCR. Images are processed locally and never saved or uploaded.
- Read external storage / photos – used only when you choose to select an image from your gallery for OCR.
- Internet – used only to download optional OCR language models on demand (see below). No other network access is made.
🌐Third-party services
Akshar makes exactly one type of outbound connection: downloading OCR model files (*.traineddata) from the tesseract-ocr/tessdata_fast repository on GitHub. This happens only when you tap “Download” for a specific language model in Settings.
This request goes to GitHub’s servers. GitHub may log the request as part of their standard server operations. We have no access to those logs. GitHub’s privacy policy applies: github.com/privacy.
No other third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics services are used.
👶Children’s privacy
Akshar does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages.
🔄Changes to this policy
If we ever change this privacy policy, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised “Effective date”. Given that we collect no data, we do not anticipate material changes.
